Menachem Begin: His Life, Legacy, & Uniquely Jewish Statesmanship

Join Rabbi Dr. Meir Soloveichik for a special limited-series podcast on Menachem Begin,
one of modern Jewish history’s greatest leaders.

This week marks the 32nd yahrzeit of Menachem Begin, the great Israeli prime minister and leader of the Jewish revolt against Great Britain.

Begin stands out as a singular figure among modern Israel’s leaders. As commander of the Jewish underground, longtime Opposition Leader, and eventually Prime Minister of Israel, he was animated by what Rabbi Meir Soloveichik calls a “covenantal” Zionism. His statesmanship reflected a unique fusion of biblical rootedness, reverence for traditional Judaism, a Hebraic fighting spirit, and a vision of the State of Israel as part of the larger Jewish story.

In his many podcasts, courses, and lectures, Rabbi Soloveichik has frequently turned to Begin for lessons and inspiration. Now, in partnership with the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem, Tikvah and MeirSoloveichik.com are releasing a special limited-series podcast on “Menachem Begin: His Life, Legacy, & Uniquely Jewish Statesmanship,” drawn from Rabbi Soloveichik’s Jerusalem 365 podcast.

Together, we’ll learn of Begin’s leadership of the Irgun and his unshakeable commitment to avoiding civil war at all costs; chart Begin’s years in the political wilderness and his rise to the premiership; and study how Begin’s covenantal worldview led this indefatigable Jewish warrior to become the State of Israel’s greatest peacemaker.

After you register, you’ll receive immediate access to all 16 episodes of the podcast, which you can listen to on your own schedule.

As Israel and the Jewish people face tremendous trials unseen in many decades, it is essential that we look to examples of great Jewish leadership from the past, and there is perhaps none more fitting for our age than Begin’s.
