“The Consultant”

“The Consultant”
An Israeli documentary feature film exposes for the first time – the enigma of the American Jewish Political Consultant Arthur J. Finkelstein.
After many years helping to elect conservative American politicians, including President Ronald Reagan, he was hired by Benjamin Netanyahu in 1996 and revolutionized Israeli political campaigning.
Finkelstein shunned public attention, and preferred to work in the shadows. Among the reasons for this secrecy was that he was a gay man who helped propel conservative anti-gay candidates to office.
This intimate and captivating film is brought to life by a continuous self-documentation – home video, weaving Finkelstein’s public political battles with his intensely private and complex life; all while contextualizing how this man – hero to some; hypocrite to others – laid the foundation for today’s political landscape. At the end of the screening, Director Eado Zuckerman and Producer Assaf Peretz will meet the audience for a conversation on the themes and the topics that the film evokes.
