Begin Prize 2009

Begin Prize 2009
This year's Begin Prize Ceremony will be held on December 15 at 7:00pm (reception at 6:30pm) in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intelligence and Atomic Energy Dan Meridor and Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem Koby Kahlon.

The Begin Prize is awarded to a person or organization whose extraordinary actions benefited the State of Israel or the People of Israel.  This year's prize goes to the rabbinic organization Tzohar.

Tzohar has been found, due to its broad-based and extensive activities, to bring Jews closer to one another through its varied activities and services and to encourage the Jewish identity of the state of Israel through dialogue and the exploring of shared elements of identity.  To find out more about Tzohar, please visit their website:  http://tzohar.org.il/english/

The honorary prizes this year will be given to Professor Irwin Cotler for his many years of activity in the field of international law and of public diplomacy on behalf of Israel and the Jewish People and to Professor Menachem Levin, a former Irgun fighter and internationally recognized scientist, for his Zionist and scientific contributions to the state of Israel.

Scholarships for the PERACH project will also be given that evening to students from Ariel University.  The money for these scholarships comes from the monetary prize Menachem Begin received with his Nobel Peace Prize.
